Montina, 2002

A whole year was spent breaking wood slats in the EOOS workshop until the typical wood slot was finally close to perfect – a story Martin, Gernot and Harald like to tell about the development of Sweetwood to this day. By cutting a slot into the backrest, EOOS succeeded in adding a new twist and more intelligent design to classic, stackable frame chairs.

What used to be hard and rigid has suddenly become soft and flexible: the thin part of the backrest bends backwards, supported by the thicker wood slat. Remarkably, value is added precisely by the fact that something has been subtracted. In 2003, Sweetwood won the Adolf Loos State Prize for Design.
