Inipi Stone

Duravit, 2009

As part of the cathartic Inipi ritual
of the Native American Lakota people, stones are heated in a fire and then carried to a shrouded tent using deer antlers. In the Duravit sauna Inipi, a session also starts with a stone – a stone-shaped remote control complete with display. It lets you regulate all the parameters: temperature, humidity, color of light and music – all

these can be individually set using the "stone". Similarly, the electronic charger can be likened to a hearth: it is a simple, white slab on which the stone is placed, and surrounded by a mysterious halo
of light while it is charging.
With ease and esprit, the Inipi Stone transposes an ancient cultural ritual into a contemporary technological context.
