Diversion Toilet

Field Trip, Uganda 2013

In a pilot phase, conducted from April to June 2013, a „Diversion Toilet“ prototype is tested in Uganda / Africa in community centers and individual households.

The Diversion toilet is a modern squatting toilet with integrated water reservoir for washing and rinsing. This increases the ease of use in a decisive way and the cleanliness of the toilet.

The diversion toilet can be used anywhere and can be set up completely self-sufficiently, not dependant on electricity, water supply or sewage systems.

One toilet is designed for the use of two families, while four families could even share a double toilet facility. Since the toilet is like portable furniture inside sanitary facilities or any other bathroom, the design allows the rental of the toilet with a service contract.

During the "Reinvent the Toilet" process a Working Group on Design was initiated , managed by Jan Diel (Delft University of Technology) and Harald Gruendl (Eoos).
