Social Furniture Collection presented the open-design furniture system developed for the refugee accommodation project Places for People at the Austrian Pavilion of the 2016 Venice Architecture Biennale. The exhibition showcased 18 self-build furniture elements for living, working, and cooking, together with the concept of social production developed at Haus Erdberg in Vienna. Produced in an in-house workshop by asylum seekers, the collection demonstrated how design can create infrastructure for participation, cooperation, and self-organization beyond the immediate context of refugee housing.
