Our aim was to create a light, completely transparent conference chair with a springy seating experience that does without extra mechanisms. To this end, we designed the seat and backrest with a flexible polyester mesh and the armrests as thin-walled arches. The backrest gently tilts forward and backward with the user, while the armrests flexibly bend with the movement. The mesh and a surrounding plastic profile are fitted into the chair’s die-cast aluminum frame and then hydraulically pressed to tension the mesh. Filo was developed in collaboration with Keilhauer and later licensed by the office furniture company Bene for the European market.
