We came across the idea for Isanka by chance when experimenting with cardboard cut-outs. A V-shape was cut into the cardboard and rejoined at the edges, which resulted in an interesting volume. A complex geometry that forms itself. We then made four such cut-outs into a piece of thick leather, rejoined the leather along these edges and arrived at a basket-shaped form: square at the bottom with four beveled corners whose tension creates an intriguing free form at the top.
Unfortunately, the sofa was soon discontinued due to production difficulties. The length tolerances between the thick leather shell and the internal structure could not be successfully resolved for serial production.
