Typically, sofas only have a single viewing and usage direction with a clear front and back, making them unfit to respond to open floor plans or changing situations. We wanted to challenge this outdated convention, create new spatial relationships and enable different perspectives. A swivel mechanism allows individual elements to rotate: the armrest becomes the backrest and the backrest the armrest. In this way, the sofa can even invert as a whole – what was previously the back is now the front.
The graphic illustrates the rotary movement of a corner element along a guiding curve, which prevents one element from rotating into the other. The specially designed swivel mechanism allows the corner element to be rotated by 90 degrees in both directions and slide into its new position along the edges of the adjacent seats.
