Sheru seat shells consist entirely of developable surfaces. We composed the seat, backrest and armrests with a variety of different patterns. For example, the one for the model without armrests was quite simple – nevertheless, it is exceptionally comfortable to sit on. Two additional cutting patterns were needed to add armrests to the chair, which then produce striking contours in its three dimensional shape and strengthen the shell. The horizontal seam along the seat surface made it possible to mount various standard bases. Armchairs and bar stools complete the range.
In the first version, the plastic seat shell is still filled with polyurethane foam – the enhanced Sheru Evo model completely dispenses with foam. The cover with the integrated 3D mesh can be easily removed and replaced.
The paper design model illustrates how the twodimensional pattern can be transformed into a three-dimensional seat shell by joining the surfaces along their contours.
