Alberto’s Vineyard

Alberto Alessi grows his own biodynamic wine on the slopes above Lago d’Orta in Italy. Tapered wine bottles inspired by Leonardo da Vinci’s Vitruvian figure are produced exclusively for his red and white wines.

Our universal wine tasting glass for Alessi combines the “ideal” glass shapes for red and white wine into one design. Turning the glass while tasting elicits different impressions of the taste and bouquet, which cause surprising changes in its character and make wine tasting a more playful and casual experience.

The asymmetry of the glass presented a particular challenge for the glassblowers as they could not perform the conventional turning movements in the wooden mold. This resulted in unpredictable wall thicknesses and varying degrees of quality.
