The drop-shaped cross section of the pen was originally intended for the Econ model. Manfred Lamy found the shape intriguing – however, its realization presented such a unique challenge that it would become one of the company’s masterpieces.

Prototypes of the pen were made, but the project was put on hold due to production difficulties – until, shortly before his retirement, the lead development engineer took it up again and finally succeeded to ready it for serial production. To our surprise and delight, the pen was launched on the market after a delay of almost ten years.
