Our first design for a smartphone-controlled door lock was a black box with an illuminated ring indicating two modes. The start-up Nuki raised approximately 380,000 euros from more than 2000 supporters on the Kickstarter crowdfunding platform. However, as the radical design of an exclusively digitally controlled lock proved impossible to implement, we introduced a cylinder so that the key can be turned manually as well. The latest model, Nuki Ultra from 2024, integrates all components into one compact geometric shape with a complete redesign of the mechanism and motor.
A mounting plate is attached onto the existing lock, the key is reinserted and the Smart Lock fitted on top.
