Social Furniture comprises 18 furniture designs for self-construction that EOOS developed for a refugee shelter as part of the project “Places for People”, Austria’s contribution to the 15th International Architecture Exhibition of La Biennale di Venezia.

The distinctive furniture pieces, made from yellow formwork panels, create spaces for shared activities: living, cooking, and working. The furniture collection extends beyond the individual refugee shelter and defines Social Furniture Making as a concern for society as a whole—one that can be scaled to different dimensions and applied anywhere.

All designs can be easily built using a circular saw and a cordless screwdriver, either as context-specific individual pieces or through mass production.
