The outcome of our ergonomic studies on urination was a device that could produce a viable generalization of the urine stream produced by men and women when sitting: the open design Urinator can be produced easily using 3D printing.
With appropriately adjusted tubing, it can recreate a liquid flow with the same properties as a real-world urine stream: curling round at specific intervals, it hits the bowl just as if someone were actually urinating.
The device made a key contribution to development of our urine separation method. We were able to speed up the process considerably as we were no longer reliant on testing with volunteers. That enabled us to try out various ideas rapidly and take reliable measurements of the percentage of separated urine in each design variant.
